Gabriela Hadid announced that the meeting will seek to “ generate a debate on the social and democratic implications ” of AI and consider the result of the use of this tool in electoral campaigns. “ Artificial intelligence is definitely affecting politics ,” she warned on Modo Fontevecchia , on Net TV , Radio Perfil (AM 1190) and Radio Amadeus (FM 91.1).

Gabriela Hadid is the Director of Iluminate for Latin America. She worked at Google Argentina, where she was in charge of user education, digital business strategy, and market research consulting. She held positions at the Ministry of National Security and the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS).

Tell us about the upcoming forum and the threats and opportunities that artificial intelligence creates for democracy.

The forum that we are organizing at Luminate, together with Civic Compass and the International Fund for Public Interest Media , seeks to generate a debate on the social and democratic implications of artificial intelligence . For the three organizations, innovating responsibly is essential and we believe that we are in time to balance this innovation with the protection of human rights.

The Global Summit on Disinformation begins today with the challenge of analyzing the consequences of Artificial Intelligence

The Forum has three objectives. On the one hand, to discuss regulatory experiences on artificial intelligence issues at a global level. We have more than 20 experts from countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States.

On the other hand, we want to analyze how this innovation can be generated responsibly when developing technology that is at the service of democracy and human rights, that avoids biases and prevents the deepening of discrimination against certain vulnerable groups.

Finally, the event aims to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on elections , mainly in relation to disinformation. This part is very important for the media field.

It is clear that social media 2.0 has changed political debate and the way a campaign is carried out. Is there a possibility that artificial intelligence will once again create problems of the magnitude that social media did?

Artificial intelligence is definitely affecting politics . Just like at the end of the campaign in Argentina last year , we saw that artificial intelligence started to get involved, we see that it has public impacts.

On the one hand, it affects people's ability to discern between what is real and what is fake , and this puts electoral integrity at risk. If we do not address artificial intelligence in time, it will affect the integrity of democracy .
