Hundreds of thousands of young people from all over the world came to the Spanish capital of Madrid to live and celebrate World Youth Day from August 16 to 21, 2011.
This event is considered a special opportunity for young people to meet with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
The opening mass was celebrated in Cibeles by the Archbishop of Madrid, with the participation of bishops, priests and laity in the midst of a sea of flags representing the countries of the five continents.
