The president of SIGNIS Uruguay , the educommunicator Carla Lima, participated as a speaker at “ Table 4: Cinema Education: Pre-school and Basic Education ” . Lima started from an analysis of practices through a series of questions: Where are we standing? Where am I (audiovisual workshop)? Where do we stand (history, regional and socio-political contexts)?
The educommunicator recounted the experience of Plan Deni, a process of audiovisual training for children and adolescents in the face of new modes of communication developed by the Catholic Film Office (currently SIGNIS, specifically from Uruguay). It was carried out in formal or informal spaces, in relation to the educational system and the family. The general objective was to strengthen the relationship with the audiovisual culture in which it is immersed. The specific objectives were to identify audiovisual consumption preferences in the chosen population, describe which themes predominate, determine from which devices, formats and platforms they choose, in addition to determining the line of access to what they see.
Lima delved into the conceptual background of the methodology of this plan. Regarding the contribution of Paulo Freire, he commented that, from the point of view of this reference, in the Deni Plan it is proposed to see each human being in its complexity and to understand that each voice has a contribution to society, which is being lost. She too has something to say and this issue crossed over into the current known as project-based education.
The president of SIGNIS Uruguay explained that, at present, in the Community Educational Center (CEC) where she works, in the basic cycle (12 years and up) projects are developed based on a problem. Students choose the workshop and the problem and, based on these aspects, learning and participation are articulated.
Regarding the profiles of the participants in the meeting, in dialogue with SIGNIS ALC Lima he indicated that they were enriching due to their diversity: on the one hand, he met people who are dedicated to making certain shorts available (especially for school-age children) , who work so that access to audiovisual products is democratic, allowing children to know the world.
On the other hand, he pointed out the area of work with minorities, in which there are film club members who are related to Afro-descendants, who teach awareness-raising courses through cinema and the generation of cinema spaces for producers who work on racial issues. from his own experience.
Finally, Lima recalled the field of education, which is done both to integrate cinema into education and to work with cinema in itself, such as media literacy . “This concept means 'making audiovisual literature', making an analysis that is linked to production. Producing cinema is not separate from making cinema with knowing and being a critic of cinema. Sometimes these areas are separated by the formative fact of grouping them in a way to form better. Then, depending on the vocations, the person will choose to make films, be a film critic or enjoy both realities ”, Mag. Lima pointed out.
