SIGNIS will participate in an international celebration for the centenary of the birth of Paulo Freire
The Institute for Creative Media and Industries at Loughborough University, in London, will hold the event "Paulo Freire Centennial - 7 Talks to prepare the next 100 years" , to be held from March 9 to 24, 2021. The colloquium will bring together different academics, teachers and communicators with the aim of commemorating the birth of the great Brazilian intellectual and pedagogue.
The debate will revolve around the five principles that Freire considered inherent in a critical and humanistic education: humility , empathy , love , hope and dialogue , described in his famous book Pedagogy of the oppressed .
During the event, the talk "Compassionate love in communication: reading an educational experience in India from the legacy of Paulo Freire" , presented by Xavier Carbonell (SIGNIS-Cuba) and Lawrence John Sinniah, Vice President of SIGNIS. This talk presents the Laudato Si ' Certificate “Social Communications from Compassion” , which brought together nine young communicators at the Javeriana University of Bhubaneshwar, India, last year. The program, which was the result of a collaboration between SIGNIS and said university, will be interpreted in the light of Freire's teachings and his principle of love .
