Winners of the Gandhi Award for communication will be announced on December 16

Fortaleza, Brazil.- On December 16, the names of the winners of the 2020 Gandhi Prize for Communication will be announced, after the qualifying jury selected the best works from a total of 133 entries. The number of applicants for the award for this edition surprised the selection committee, due to the atypical pandemic period that the country and the world are experiencing.

The Gandhi Award for Communication is an initiative of the Good News Agency (Boa Notícia), a Non-Governmental Organization based in Fortaleza (CE), created with the aim of stimulating the strengthening of the Culture of Peace, through Communication. The details of the award (whether it will be virtual or face-to-face) will be announced later, according to the recommendations and health prevention measures in force for the date.

The winners will receive a financial incentive, a trophy per category and a certificate of participation. This year, the prize totals R $ 30 thousand. The winners of the professional categories will receive R $ 4 thousand each and the winners of the student categories will receive R $ 2 thousand each. There are six categories for professionals and three for students.

In the student categories, this year's edition received 13 applicants for completion of courses from the University of Fortaleza, Unifor, UFC and UNI7; plus seven from Electronic Media, three from Unifor and four from UFC.

In the professional categories: Photojournalism received 21, 13 from the Nordeste daily newspaper, four from the O Povo newspaper; three from El Optimista and one from El Estado; Teleperiodismo has 13 registrations, five from TV Ceará, one from TV Verdes Mares, three from TV Assembleia and four from TV Jangadeiro; Print journalism attracted 15 registrants, 12 from the Diário do Nordeste newspaper, one from the O Povo newspaper and two from the Comércio do Ceará newspaper.

Radiojournalism had 13 registrations, five from Radio Verdes Mares, two from Radio Fortaleza FM, three from Radio FM Assembly, two from Radio Joven Pan and one from Radio Dom Bosco FM.

This year's new category, Internal Communication, received 11 applicants, one from MRS Estudos Ambientais, one from Lene Digital, one from the Secretary of Education of the State Government (Seduc), one from the Walter Cantídio University Hospital, three from the Assembly Legislative, two from M. Dias Branco, one from Hélice Comunicação and one from the Public Ministry.

The Content Producer category grows every year, demonstrating the recognition of the award throughout the country. This year there were 40 registrations, including Fortaleza, Brasilia, São Paulo, Campinas, Salvador, Florianópolis, Maceió and João Pesso
