Lima Peru. According to a recent study carried out by the Consultative Council of Radio and Television of Peru, CONCORTV, television programming aimed at children and adolescents is minimal and they do not offer spaces for participation in which the voices of this important segment are heard. population. The study reveals that 35% of the programs analyzed present children and adolescents as victims or in a state of vulnerability, and an adult-centric view remains throughout the programming and only 5% of the programs include interviews with children and adolescents.
The qualitative study called: Social representations of girls, boys and adolescents that currently predominate in Peruvian television programs , highlights that only TV Peru is the channel that offers content that includes information aimed at this important sector of the population, since In the other media, a great shortage of programming aimed at children and adolescents is revealed.
The study, carried out in the last months of 2020, aimed to analyze the social representations of the NNA that currently predominate in the Peruvian open signal television programs, to know the level of promotion and protection of their rights in the framework of the existing radio and television regulations and those for the protection of rights for children and adolescents.
The study also collected the voices of children and adolescents through focus groups, who expressed their demands to the television media "more culture", "education and not show business", "make technology and creativity programs" and "comply with the family protection schedule ”.
To carry out the study, 50 television programs (informative, entertainment, humor, novels and series, etc.) broadcast during child protection hours (6:00 - 22:00) were analyzed. Likewise, 57 adolescents from nine regions of the country participated through surveys and virtual focus groups.
The study will be delivered to the headlines of the television channels analyzed, to the State authorities related to the promotion and defense of the rights of children and adolescents. Likewise, it will be available on the CONCORTV website for the interested public.
